What is Zichy Prize?
Famous Hungarian artist Mihály Zichy spent part of his life in Georgia and left significant trace in Georgian fine arts – created illustrations for the “Knight in the Panther’s Skin”. Besides becoming integrated part of georgian literature, Zichy’s whole artistic work was inspired by the years he spent in this precious country. His legacy can be a good example for the artist of nowadays and his international cultural prospects can give unique guidline to any artist to follow.
Prize aims to reveal and promote talented artists who have yet to establish a profile on the contemporary international scene. Every year the Selection Board opens up this competition in different filed of art.
The prize can change annually. The winner of 2019 Zichy Prize receives the opportunity to take part in a one-month long Plein-Air international art camp in Hungary supported by the Embassy.
What are the submission criteria?
In 2019 the focus is on illustrations. All the georgian applicants between age 18-35 has to submit their artwork (1-3 pieces max) based on the theme „Wisdom of Lies”. Artists has to choose either of the chapter from Sulkan-Shaba Orbeliani’s novel. Based on the selected chapter the illustration should be prepaired.
How can You enter?
The artworks can be made either electronically or by handwork but the submission is required only in electronic version (jpeg, png format) to the following e-mail adress: zichy.tbs@mfa.gov.hu
Other requirements
Besides the dedicated artworks, all the aplicants has to submit their portfolios (no more than 5 pages) and short description of their artistic visions (maximum 2000 character )
Decision and deadlines:
The winner of the prize will be decided by a Selection Board. The submission of artworks should start from 2020 January 1st. The closure of the entries is 31st March 2020. Announcment of the winner is April 2020.
